Accompaniment Volunteer Training

  • Virtual - Register for Zoom link (map)

Interested in supporting immigrant families in New Mexico during some of their most challenging moments? Join NMILC's Accompaniment Volunteer Training to learn how you can play a meaningful role in helping immigrant community members navigate immigration court hearings, ICE check-ins, and emergency family preparedness planning. This training provides an overview of the volunteer role, expectations, onboarding requirements, and the impact accompaniment can have on immigrant families across New Mexico. We encourage anyone interested in volunteering to attend the training before committing to the role.

As part of NMILC's Family Preparedness Program, Accompaniment Volunteers help strengthen the safety and well-being of immigrant families by supporting emergency planning, connecting individuals with resources, and serving as a trusted presence during critical appointments. Volunteers help build a "circle of protection" around community members while upholding dignity, safety, and self-determination.

Volunteer Commitment

  • Approximately 3-5 hours per week, with opportunities for additional involvement

  • Combination of virtual and in-person participation

  • Flexible availability and reliable transportation required for accompaniment requests

  • Completion of NMILC onboarding and Accompaniment 101 training required

Who Should Attend This role is designed for experienced, vetted volunteers who demonstrate cultural awareness and a commitment to centering the safety, agency, and well-being of immigrant community members.

Together, we can advance justice, equity, and community support for immigrant families across New Mexico.
